About Toto
Toto was founded in 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro, David Paich (who at the time were also acclaimed studio musicians working with Boz Scaggs) and bassist/singer Bobby Kimball. The name of the group came from a Latin word that translates to "all-encompassing" and was determined to explore every style of music.
In 1981 the third album by Toto Turn Back is a failure however, they bounce back with their fourth album Isolation with two hits, including the title track and Roseanna. The album and tour make them a household name throughout the world.

When they record the band's fifth album the band loses their manager and are faced with financial difficulties. They decide to change their name and create a new album with a new producer. Joseph Williams, the son of John Williams, the legendary film composer and actress Barbara Ruick from 1950s, replaces Fergie Frederiksen as lead vocalist. Joseph is a more natural frontman than Frederiksen and gives the band a needed boost.
In 1999, the band releases Mindfields and begin an extensive tour around the world. After a few months in Europe they come to Japan where the shows are sold out. After a brief hiatus, Toto resumes their recording and releases their first live album titled Absolutely Live in 1993. This includes a cover version of Weezer's hit song Hash Pipe as a response to the band's performance in Africa on their recent tour. Toto's touring group is comprised by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.

The next year, Toto toured with Ringo Starr's All Starr Band. This was the last time that all the original members of Toto were performing together. Following this, the group was again disbanded. Toto returned for an event benefiting the ALS Foundation in 2010. to raise funds for the ALS Foundation. It was the first time all of the original Toto members were on stage together in over 31 years. The original group was joined by keyboardist Greg Tambu who filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate who filled in for Shem von Schroeck.

The album marked a return to form for the group and the tour supported it with sold-out shows across North America and Europe. The reunion of Toto gained momentum with the return of bassist Shem Von Schroeck and guitarist Steve Lukather.
